Due to changes in Sacramento County’s special event permitting policies, the River City Marathon course has changed; it will now be run on the bike paths surrounding beautiful Lake Natoma in scenic and historic Folsom, California.
The course begins in Folsom, in the parking lot to the northwest of the intersection of Leidesdorff and Reading Streets, where the bike trail begins on the west side of Folsom Boulevard, to the west of the Lake Natoma Inn on Gold Lake Drive. The out-and-back course first travels south on the trail through Willow Creek to Nimbus Overlook, turning North and proceeding through Negro Bar. The Marathon turnaround is at Folsom Lake Crossing and Folsom-Auburn Road; the Half Marathon turnaround is at the intersection of the trail and Main Avenue. The new additions of the 50K, 10K, and 5K will also be out-and-back courses along this shared route.
The course is a paved bike trail and will be certified by the USATF as a Boston Qualifier.
Courses subject to change.
The average temperatures for the area are a high of 67 ⁰F and a low of 47 ⁰F, with some precipitation possible.
Aid stations will be spaced along the course every 2-3 miles. Aid stations will have cold water and Heed electrolyte drink. Several aid stations will have Hammer gels.
- Runners must wear their official race number on the front of their person, where it must be visible at all times.
- Each runner must complete the entire selected course under their own power in order to be eligible for a medal.
- No unregistered runners, walkers, or pacers.
- No dogs. No strollers, baby joggers, incline skates, or bicycles.
- Runner safety has always been, and will continue to be, a top priority for our event. Please be mindful of the other participants and respect the race personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone.
- Each runner must carry all their own food, fluids and other supplies needed for use between aid stations.
- Runners may not accept aid from their support crew or any other source while on the course and in between aid stations, except in case of a medical emergency.
- Any entrant who is unable or does not desire to finish the race must continue to the nearest aid station. The runner must relinquish their race number to the aid station captain and state their decision to withdraw.
- Absolutely no littering. Please respect the natural beauty of our trails and the rights of everyone to enjoy them.
The best option for air travel is Sacramento International Airport (SMF), approximately 30 miles west of Folsom. Some airlines fly into Stockton Metropolitan Airport (SCK), approximately 70 miles south of Folsom.
