COURSE

The 50K is an extremely challenging course with four major climbs.  Starting at Cool Firehouse, the course follows the Western States Trail to No Hands, toward China Bar and Auburn Overlook, to Oregon Bar and up Cardiac, back to Auburn, toward Robie Point, back to No Hands, then up K2, crossing Salt Creek to Knickerbocker Creek, then continuing past Knickerbocker on a five-mile loop to Northside School and back to Cool.

The Half Marathon goes down to No Hands, up K2 to Knickerbocker and to the dam site, back up to Knickerbocker and back on the paved road to Cool.

The 35K goes down to No Hands to Auburn via the the lower trail, up to the Overlook, back down to No Hands, follows the Western States Trail through Robie Point, up K2 to Knickerbocker, down to the dam site, back to Knickerbocker and back to Cool via the paved road.

The 8M course is actually 8.6 miles, and goes down to No Hands, up K2 to Knickerbocker aid (7.35miles), and back on the paved road to Cool (1.25miles).

There is a 10-hour time limit for all distances.  Aid stations are located approximately every 3-5 miles and will be stocked with hydration and nutrition options.

Runners will be allowed drop bags at No Hands and Knickerbocker aid stations.

WEATHER

The late-February running will see typical temperatures of a high of 60 ⁰F and a low of 41 ⁰F, with some precipitation possible.

AID STATIONS

Four aid stations are provided along the course, with 50K runners seeing them a combined seven times.  All aid stations have vehicular access; however, to minimize traffic, crews are allowed at the Overlook and No Hands, only.  Aid stations will supply water, Heed, Hammer gels, Endurolytes, soda, and a variety of sweet and salty snacks.

Runners must be sure to check in to each aid station.

PERFORMANCE RULES

  • Runners must wear their official race number on the front of their person, where it must be visible at all times.
  • Each runner must complete the entire selected course under their own power in order to be eligible for a finisher award.  Changes to a different distance are allowed provided they are communicated to an aid station as well as upon completion of the race.
  • Each runner must carry all their own food, fluids and other supplies needed for use between aid stations.
  • Runners may not accept aid from a support crew or any other source while on the course and in between aid stations and designated support locations, except in case of a medical emergency.
  • Any entrant who is unable or does not desire to finish the race must continue to the nearest aid station. The runner must relinquish their race number to the aid station captain and state their decision to withdraw.
  • Absolutely no littering.  Please respect the natural beauty of our trails and the rights of everyone to enjoy them.

Volunteers are an essential element of any race, but especially for trail races.  And we have some of the best!  Interested in volunteering?  Let us know here.  In additional to a sweet volunteer tee (you know you want one!), we thank you with free entry into any ERT race this year.  And lots of hugs and kisses.

RACE DAY

PARKING

All runners and spectators must pay to park at the race.  Auburn SRA charges $10, payable in cash or check (made payable to Auburn SRA).  All attendees must park inside the Knickerbocker gate (normally closed at the Cool Staging Area).  After entering, all cars must turn around and park on the south side of the road, facing east, as if exiting.

All participants will receive a technical shirt, a finisher award (upon completion of the registered event), and goodie bag.  Awards will be presented for the top men’s and women’s finishers in each race.  Depth of awards dependent upon participant field.

Each participant will receive a raffle ticket for entry to win one of the raffle prizes provided by Elemental Running and Training and its generous sponsors and partners.   Additional tickets will be available for purchase for $2 each or three for $5.  Raffle will take place prior to the race start.

Runners can place drop bags at the Start/Finish Area, labeled with their name, bib number, and aid station.  Drop bags will be transported to the aid stations and returned at the conclusion of the race.  Runners must collect their drop bags after the race, as they will not be available for pick-up or shipping after race day.

Winners must be present to receive all finisher awards and raffle prizes.  No awards or prizes will be mailed.

FINISH FESTIVAL

All spectators, crew, friends, and family are welcome to relax at the start/finish area and enjoy the atmosphere while cheering on their runners.  Plenty of food and beverages will be available, as well as a post-race barbeque.  Donations from non-participants will be greatly appreciated.

The festival area will include booths and displays by ERT sponsors and partners, with product samples, demonstrations, and items for sale, so don’t forget to bring some cash.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available, so contact ERT today if you or your organization wishes to be represented at the festival.
