Coyote Springs NevadaSet amid the master-planned Coyote Springs community approximately fifty miles north of Las Vegas, the Coyote Springs Trail Run is a race to not be missed. Coyote’s trails have been hand-cut by Pardee Homes Vice President Klif Andrews and the “trail hobos,” a group of near-mountain men as rugged as the terrain itself, who make their lives in the backwoods and brush; their appreciation for nature and the thrill of challenging trail has resulted in a system both original in layout and design as well as painstakingly maintained. Paired with the expertise and innovation of Elemental Running and Training, the resulting course will leave runners awe-inspired and breathless, even before the gun goes off.

Elemental Running and Training and Pardee Homes are proud to dedicate the proceeds of this event to the Xtreme Couture G.I. Foundation, which raises money to assist severely wounded veterans and their families as they return to civilian life. Donate directly to the G.I. Foundation during registration to receive an autographed photo of Randy Couture and an Xtreme Couture tee shirt! Fighters will be running the event and attending the festival, so bring your family and friends to watch you race then meet the fighters and wounded service men and women the foundation benefits.

COURSE

The variety of terrain helps make this course ideal for first-time trail runners, as well as seasoned trail pros. The 10K, ½ Marathon, and Marathon courses traverse the gamut of trail terrain, including dirt fire roads, paved roads, single-track trails, steep as well as gradual climbs and descents, scenic switchbacks, rocky roundabouts, deep canyons, and vast expanses of desert landscape. Both the 10K and ½ Marathon are a single-loop course, while the Marathon is two loops, run in a washing-machine style.

With a regal mountain backdrop, unparalleled views of earth and sky, and the variety among the terrain, runners will easily lose themselves in the beautiful scenery and epic experience. Cresting hills and sailing down switchbacks with previously-unthought-of speed and ease, participants will feed from the serenity and splendor of the landscape. Coyote Springs is the perfect way to escape the routine and comfort of the “usual suspect” courses, and for a masters class in trail with impressive PR potential.

As expected with the rugged landscape, trail shoes are strongly recommended, and gaiters are encouraged. Much of the course is surrounded by undisturbed desert landscape, including cacti and wildlife habitats, so participants should be prepared for the likelihood of encountering common desert critters.

Coyote Springs Trail Runs

Participants will be required to remain on the trails and within the course boundaries so as to not disturb the natural surroundings. Runners need be conscious of the terrain and exercise care in foot placement.

As with all Coyote Springs Trail Runs, the course will be liberally-marked to ensure participant safety, participant adherence to the course, and ease of following the course, as well as to entertain and encourage. (Dirty Runners Are Sexy!)

WEATHER

The late-October running will take advantage of the temperate Las Vegas-area climate. Typical temperatures will see a high of 70 ⁰F and a low of 47 ⁰F, with no precipitation.

AID STATIONS

Three aid stations will be located along the course and will offer fuel and hydration options in addition to water and Gatorade. The 10K course will visit one aid station; the ½ Marathon and Marathon will see all three stations, which marathoners will visit twice each. Participants are encouraged to carry their own fluid and fuel and must retain all garbage for proper disposal at an aid station or the staging area. Under no circumstances should any trash or other litter be left out on the course.

SUPPORT CREW & PACERS

Crews will be allowed, but will have access to the runners only from one location on the course. Specific information on crew access will be posted as the event date approaches.

Due to environmental considerations and the need to preserve the integrity of the trails and surroundings, pacers will not be allowed on the course. All participants must register.

PERFORMANCE RULES

  • Runners must wear their official race number on the front of their person, where it must be visible at all times.
  • Each runner must complete the entire selected course under their own power in order to be eligible for a medal. Changes to a different distance are allowed provided they are communicated to an aid station as well as upon completion of the race.
  • Each runner must carry all their own food, fluids and other supplies needed for use between aid stations.
  • Runners may not accept aid from their support crew or any other source while on the course and in between aid stations and designated support locations, except in case of a medical emergency.

AIR TRAVEL & LODGING

Participants traveling by air will arrive at McCarran International Airport. The array of Las Vegas lodging options are available, but ERT recommends Suncoast Hotel and Casino or Aliante Station, as they are the hotel/casinos closest to Coyote Springs in Las Vegas. Suncoast offers free shuttle service from McCarran, for which guests must schedule in advance. Participants wishing to carpool can contact Elemental Running and Training with their request and lodging and contact information and ERT will attempt to facilitate contact for participants to make arrangements.

Approximately equidistant from Coyote Springs as Las Vegas is Mesquite, Nevada. Hotel options there include the CasaBlanca Hotel and Casino, Virgin River Hotel and Casino, and the Falcon Ridge Hotel. Mesquite is 81 miles north of Las Vegas and 57 miles from Coyote Springs. Camping is permitted onsite; however, there are no services or facilities in the area. Room for motor homes is available near the start/finish area and the use of these is welcomed.

In addition to the bevy of entertainment options available in Las Vegas, participants can also take advantage of a variety of specials—including stay-and-play packages—offered by The Chase at Coyote Springs, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, recognized as his finest design and one of the top new courses in the United States.
