Jimmy Gabany

Jimmy’s love of sports and fitness began at a young age as an avid soccer player in southern California, culminating while in the US Army with a spot on the Division 3 futball club, FC Schweinfurt, in Schweinfurt, Germany. He began coaching high school and recreational soccer teams while still in college and continues to do so to this day. He is the Head Coach for the Elemental Racing Team.

Jimmy’s natural penchant for seeking out challenge brought him to a new passion for running in 2005, after reading UltraMarathon Man, Dean Karnazes’s account of his own journey into ultrarunning. Jimmy accrued all the research and resources he could find, educating himself in various schools of thought and drawing upon each to formulate his own best practices for optimal personal performance. He completed multiple full and half marathons en route to his true passion, ultrarunning. At home amid a community unique in its collaborative spirit, with endurance and mental fortitude as its measure of accomplishment, Jimmy found running to be an intensely individual and cerebral effort, yet simultaneously a social and mutual endeavor. Jimmy has now completed several 50Ks and 50-milers, and continues to build his ultrarunning resume with multiple 50-mile, 100-mile, and 135-mile races scheduled.

Jimmy exercises his love of ultrarunning not only in his own participation and accomplishment, but also through Race Direction. With experience that includes Rio Del Lago 100-mile Endurance Race, Coyote Springs Trail Runs, Fleet Feet Las Vegas race series, and Badwater Ultramarathon crew, Jimmy is always looking for new opportunities in ultrarunning, all under the umbrella of his position as Founder, Race Director, and Coach of Elemental Running.

In 2007, Jimmy began endurance coaching and personal training. His broad knowledge and personal practice enable him to tailor programs and training to specific individuals, their goals, and their unique physiology. Jimmy prides himself on being able to get the most out of his athletes and teams without the mental or physical burnout that is common in the industry. Coaching is about finding the right balance for the athletes between work, fun, and rest while guiding them to their goals. By focusing on this fundamental premise with his clients, he is able to extract superior performance returns from their training investment.
