COURSE

New Course Map!

With the help of some of our best volunteers, we have adjusted the course again, to help break the monotony of multiple loops.  The course now consists of a 13.7-mile loop and a 11.3-mile loop, upon which runners will alternate to achieve their given distance.  Runners will start east on a 13.7-mile, counter-clockwise loop from Cool Firehouse, east to Pig Farm and Salt Creek, toward the river and back into Cool.  Next, they will follow a 11.3-mile, clockwise loop from Cool Firehouse toward Northside School, to Knickerbocker, to the Rim Trail, past the radio towers, back to Northside School and Knickerbocker, and back to Cool.

There will be aid stations at approximately miles 4.5,  10.2, 13.7 (start/finish), 16.1, 18.75, 23.2, and 25 (start/finish), with additional water drops at miles 9 and 11.  Runners electing to withdraw at an aid station will receive credit for distance completed to that aid station.

The course consists of single track and fire roads.  GPS course map and elevation profile to be posted shortly.

Participants will be required to remain on the trails and within the course boundaries so as to not disturb the natural surroundings. Runners need be conscious of the terrain and exercise care in foot placement.

WEATHER

The average temperatures for the area are a high of 94 ⁰F and a low of 62 ⁰F, with no precipitation.

AID STATIONS

sponsored by

hammer

Aid stations will be stocked with Heed electrolyte drink, water, Hammer gels, and a variety of food and snacks.  Drop bags will be available at the Start/Finish, Knickerbocker, and potentially one additional aid station (to be determined).  Crews will not have access to the aid stations along the course–crew access will be available at the Start/Finish area only.

Runners electing to withdraw at the aid station will receive credit for distance completed to that aid station.

Many thanks to Hammer Nutrition for their generous support of this event.  Please visit their site, www.hammernutrition.com, for more information about their products for performance, nutrition, and recovery.

SUPPORT CREW & PACERS

Crews will be allowed but will have access to the runners from from the Start/Finish area only.  There is no vehicular access to the aid stations along the loop.

Pacers will be allowed for the 100M runners, only, after completion of a total of four loops (at mile 50).

PERFORMANCE RULES

  • Runners must wear their official race number on the front of their person, where it must be visible at all times.
  • Each runner must complete the entire selected course under their own power in order to be eligible for a medal. Changes to a different distance are allowed provided they are communicated to an aid station as well as upon completion of the race.  Any runner dropping to a lower distance is not eligible for placement awards.
  • Each runner must carry all their own food, fluids and other supplies needed for use between aid stations.
  • Runners may not accept aid from their support crew or any other source while on the course and in between aid stations and designated support locations, except in case of a medical emergency.
  • Any entrant who is unable or does not desire to finish the race must continue to the nearest aid station. The runner must relinquish their race number to the aid station captain and state their decision to withdraw.
  • Absolutely no littering. Please respect the natural beauty of our trails and the rights of everyone to enjoy them.

Those finishing in under 24:00 will receive a silver buckle.  Winners earn a gold buckle.  33 hours is a guideline, only: ERT will not pull a runner, even after the 33-hour mark, provided the runner remains in good physical and mental condition.

There are no cutoff times per distance: we will not pull any runner off the course, provided the runner remains in good physical and mental condition.

12-hour and 6-hour race winners will be determined by the greatest distance completed in the given timeframe, rounded down to the last aid station the runner achieved prior to expiration of time.

CAN I GET A VOLUNTEER?!

Volunteers are an essential element of any race, but especially for an ultra.  And we have some of the best!  Interested in volunteering?  Email us.  In additional to a sweet volunteer tee (you know you want one!), we thank you with free entry into any ERT race this year.  And lots of hugs and kisses.

We need volunteers for the aid stations and for the Start/Finish area.  Obviously, our need is heaviest Saturday, and as the different distances finish.  You can assist for all or part of the day–just let us know when you are available.

RACE DAY

All participants will receive a technical shirt and custom finisher award (upon completion of the event distance).  Awards will be presented for the top men’s and women’s finishers in each race.  100M and Half Marathon winners will be determined by time to complete the distance; 12-hour and 6-hour winners will be those completing the farthest distance in the allotted time.

100M finishers will receive a custom buckle;   100M finishers in 24:00 or less will earn the special edition silver buckle.  100M winners are awarded the gold buckle.

Each participant will receive a raffle ticket for their chance to win one of the raffle prizes courtesy of ERT, its sponsors, and partners.  The raffle will be held at the start of the event to ensure all participants are present.

Barbeque and a great food spread will be available for all runners after their race as well as throughout the event.

PARKING

No more need to pay for parking!!  ERT will be absorbing the cost of parking for the event.  Each participant will receive a parking pass with their packet pickup materials; these passes may be given to family, friends, or other spectators; however, please note only one pass is available per runner, so carpool if you have a crew coming out.

All attendees and those with event passes must park inside the Knickerbocker gate (normally closed at the Cool Staging Area).  After entering, all cars must turn around and park on the south side of the road, facing east, as if exiting.

Any spectators without a parking pass are still subject to pay the $10 entry fee for Auburn SRA, and must park in the parking lot closest to the fire station.  Parking is not allowed in the trailer lot; cars will be ticketed by the rangers.
