Jimmy’s love of sport and fitness began at a young age as an avid soccer player, quickly building an impressive player resume with many community and school teams throughout southern California, culminating after college with a Division 3 football club in Schweinfurt, Germany. He began coaching high school and recreational soccer teams while still in college, and continues to do so to this day. He is the Head Coach for the Las Vegas Neon Soccer Club 01 and 02 girls, and 96 Boys.
Jimmy’s natural penchant to seek out challenge brought him to a new passion in running in 2005, after reading UltraMarathon Man, Dean Karnazes’ national best-selling account of his own embarkation into ultrarunning. Fueled by his thirst for knowledge, Jimmy sought out all the research and resources he could find, indoctrinating himself on various schools of thought and drawing upon each to formulate his own best practices for optimal personal performance. He completed multiple full and half marathons en route to his true passion, ultrarunning. At home amid a community unique in its collaborative spirit, with endurance and mental fortitude as its measure of accomplishment, Jimmy found running to be an intensely individual and cerebral effort, yet simultaneously a social and mutual endeavor. Jimmy has now completed several 50Ks and 50-milers, and continues to build his ultrarunning resume with multiple 50- and 100-mile races scheduled for this year.
Jimmy exercises his love of ultrarunning not only by his own participation and accomplishment, but also through Race Direction. With experience that includes Rio Del Lago 100-mile Endurance Race, Coyote Springs Trail Runs, Fleet Feet Las Vegas race series, and Badwater Ultramarathon crew, Jimmy is creating new ultras in the southwest to add to his portfolio of existing races in Nevada, all under the umbrella of his station as Founder, Race Director, and Coach of Elemental Running and Training.
In 2007, Jimmy began endurance coaching and personal training for a breadth of athletes, whether looking simply to improve their overall fitness or to hone performance in a particular sport. His zeal for the sport has resulted in a wealth of knowledge upon which to draw varied techniques, enabling him to tailor programs and training to the specific individual, his goals, and his unique physiology. Jimmy prides himself on being able to get the most out of his athletes and teams without mental or physical burnout. Coaching is about finding the right balance for the athlete between work, fun, and rest while guiding them to their goals; by imparting this fundamental on his clients, he is able to extract superior returns from their performance. Jimmy exercises this methodology to the level of art with his clients as well as in his own personal ventures.
Jimmy is a Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He is a Level 1 coach with the United States of America Track and Field Association (USATF) and a member of their national registry. He holds coaching certifications from Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), as well as certification as a Schwinn Indoor Cycling Instructor. Jimmy has held roles as Race Director for Life Time Fitness, Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor at 24 Hour Fitness, and Cycle Instructor at private health clubs.
Jimmy believes personal fulfillment comes from feeding one’s passion and constantly challenging oneself through new experiences. This philosophy is pervasive throughout all Jimmy’s undertakings, be they the races he directs, his personal ultrarunning curriculum, or the manner in which he coaches his clients.
